NEW TRANSFER STUDENT CHECKLIST

Congratulations on being admitted to EKU! Here are a few things you need to do to get started.

LOG IN TO EKU DIRECT

EKU Direct is where you get stuff done! Almost everything on this list requires logging in. Here’s how to do it for the first time.

  • Visit EKU Direct
  • Log in with your nine-digit EKU ID number and your six-digit PIN number. Find your ID number in your application portal. Your temporary PIN is your six-digit birth date. For example, if you were born on January 25, 2000, your PIN would be 012500.
  • Change your PIN. Make sure it’s a number you can remember, but one that isn’t easy for others to guess!

ACTIVATE YOUR EKU EMAIL

In EKU Direct, click the “Personal Information” tab and select “Activate EKU Student Email Account.” You will find your username, email address, temporary password, instructions and more. Log into your EKU email at mymail.eku.edu and change your password to something secure and memorable.

You can now start using your EKU email to communicate with faculty and staff and stay up-to-date with campus announcements. You will use your email address or username and password to log in to other campus services, as well.

**If you are having trouble logging into EKU Direct or EKU email please contact IT at 859-622-3000

RUN A DEGREEWORKS AUDIT

This will let you see how your transferred credits have been applied to your degree progress. In EKU Direct, look under the “Student Services & Financial Aid” tab and click “Student Records” and “EKU DegreeWorks.” Log in to EKU DegreeWorks with your username and the password you created when setting up your email.

For more instructions, visit registrar.eku.edu/Links/degreeworks/faq. Note that it can take some time for the Registrar’s office to enter your records. If you don’t see all your completed credits in DegreeWorks, contact us at ekusoto@eku.edu or 859-622-7686 and we’ll help get the ball rolling.

FIND YOUR ADVISOR

Go to EKU Direct. Look under the “Student Services & Financial Aid” tab and click “Who is my advisor?” You can also view and contact your advisor in EKU DegreeWorks. Reach out to your advisor and schedule a meeting with them.

Your advisor will help you choose your courses for the upcoming semester and provide your RAC number, which you need for registration.

If you’re transferring to EKU with less than 24 completed hours, check the REGISTER FOR NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION text below.

REGISTER FOR CLASSES

Log in to EKU Direct. Under the Student Services and Financial Aid tab, click “Registration” and “Add/Drop Classes.” Select the upcoming semester and follow the prompts. Search for the classes you discussed with your advisor, add them and register.

CREATE YOUR COLONEL CARD

Your Colonel Card is your campus ID and serves many other functions, such as holding your dining balance and allowing you access into residence halls. Upload your photo and request your card after you register for classes. Instructions on how to get your card can be found at the Colonel Card website.

A FEW MORE STEPS

Not all transfer students need to complete the following steps, but please read each one carefully.

REGISTER FOR NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION

Are you a new transfer student who is under 21 and has earned less than 24 credit hours at another institution? Do you plan to start in the fall? If so, you must attend a summer New Student Orientation. At New Student Orientation, you will meet with an advisor in person and register for classes on-site, allowing you to skip the FIND YOUR ADVISOR and REGISTER FOR CLASSES steps above.

To register for orientation, go to EKU Direct. Under the Main Menu tab, select “Orientation” and then “Register Now.”

APPLY FOR HOUSING

Are you planning to live on campus? If so, apply for housing online. Please note that some students are required to live on campus. All single, full-time, undergraduate students under the age of 21, having fewer than 60 hours, or less than four academic semesters living on campus are required to live in EKU residence hall facilities. An exception is made for students living with their parents in the parents' primary residence within 50 miles of the Richmond campus. If you meet the exception, an additional Living with Parent Verification form must be completed and returned to the Office Housing & Residence Life.

REGISTER YOUR VEHICLE

If you’re bringing a car to campus, you’ll need to register it and pay the $140 parking fee. You can register your vehicle online. Log in to the parking service with your EKU email address and password.
